Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) must be foundational to the TCU Core Curriculum and should permeate the courses offered throughout the Core.

In spring 2019, the Faculty Assembly and Faculty Senate voted to approve a resolution recommending the addition of a DEI Essential Competency (EC) to the TCU Core Curriculum.

Plans for implementing the DEI EC are ongoing and remain a high priority.  The DEI EC Committee’s work is temporarily paused while the TCU QEP Leadership team determines during the fall semester of 2021 how to best advance the implementation of the DEI EC in a collaborative, evidence-based manner.  Further updates on DEI EC implementation will be provided as available.

In the meantime, we encourage faculty to build the DEI content and methodologies into their syllabi to ensure the presence of DEI in the TCU Curriculum while implementation plans take shape.

We also encourage faculty to take advantage of trainings in DEI available to them.  This includes:

Inclusive Teaching: Supporting All Students in the Classroom, a MOOC developed by Columbia University

TCU HR trainings in “Mitigating Unconscious Bias” and “Interrupting Microaggressions.”

Programs offered by TCU’s Office of Student Identity and Engagement.

You may consult the the Faculty Submission Form for DEI EC Core Vetting, though the DEI EC Committee is not currently accepting proposals.
