Pillar of Purple Award

The Pillar of Purple Award will be presented each year to a member of a TCU Men’s and Women’s athletic team. The award honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of college athletes from all sports at TCU. To be eligible, nominees must have competed and earned a varsity letter in a TCU sponsored sport.

Purpose: To recognize the contributions that student-athletes make to TCU, their teams and the community outside of TCU.

Benefits: Make evident to the campus community the life of the student-athlete including:

  • Time involved in athletic activities
  • Academic requirements
  • Co-curricular involvements
  • Challenges unique to college athletes
  • Make clear to student-athletes the value of their contributions to TCU

Criteria:

  1. Junior or Senior academic class standing
  2. Academic Achievement – 3.0 or greater
  3. Community Service
  4. Campus Involvement
  5. Athletic Achievement including team, TCU, Big 12, press or NCAA honors

Process:

  1. Nominations will be made to the IAC by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
  2. Three men’s sports and three women’s sports athletes may be nominated for the award
  3. Students nominated will complete a form that includes references
  4. Nominations must include how the nominee meets the criteria for the award
  5. Selection will be announced by the IAC each November and April

It is expected that student-athletes selected for the Pillar of Purple Award will exemplify high standards of citizenship, character and courage. This is an award that recognizes the totality of the student-athlete’s commitment to excellence. The committee will take the collection of all criteria into consideration in making a decision.

The awardee will receive a plaque or other suitable acknowledgment to be determined by the IAC, be recognized at the annual spring athletic banquet and have their accomplishment noted in the appropriate location in the TCU Library.
